The animation industry is growing tremendously and in the digital world, various organisations and production houses are in search for talented animators, designers, creative artists as the world is technologically developing. Fast gaining popularity among the masses, Multimedia and Animation are the fields wherein maximum people are planning to make a career for themselves. As per reports shared by Research & Markets, the Indian animation industry is expected to reach the 23 billion mark by 2021 as it is known to grow by 15%-20% per year. The duration of animation courses offered at different animation colleges ranges from six months to two years. Interested candidates can pursue a 2D or 3D animation course. However, going by the trend these days it is advisable that one pursues a 3D animation course only.

In this article, Shiksha lists down the 10 Animation Colleges/Institutes that have received the most visits. The institutes are not listed in any particular order or ranking.

VIT University

Location: Vellore

Established in 1984, VIT University was then known as Vellore Engineering College which was a self-financing institution. VIT University is known to have over 1,400 faculty members and 1,413 other staff members. VIT University offers 36 Undergraduate (UG), 31 Postgraduate (PG), 4 Integrated and 3 Research Programmes. Candidates can secure admission in BSc Multimedia and Animation course offered at VIT University, Vellore on the basis of their performance in the qualifying exam (10+2).

An extremely popular Animation college, National Institute of Design (NID), Ahmedabad was established in 1961 by the Government of India as an autonomous institute to train students in fields such as Industrial Design and Visual Communication.

The official website informs, "Graduates of Animation Film Design work as independent animators. Some students freelance as storyboard and pre-production visualizers. Others work as art directors and as part of creative teams in channels such as Channel [V], MTV, Nickelodeon, Cartoon Network, and in multimedia agencies like Tata Interactive, Infosys and production houses like Famous House of Animation, Vaibhav Studio, and Miditech".

Amity University

Location: Mumbai

Established in 2003, Amity University has campuses in cities such as Noida, Lucknow, Jaipur, Gurgaon, Gwalior, Greater Noida, Mumbai, Raipur, Kolkata, Ranchi and Patna. Amity University, Mumbai offers BSc Animation & Visual Graphics course to students. Candidates are eligible to enrol for animation course if they have cleared their Class 12 from a recognised board.

The Mumbai campus of Amity University is located on the Mumbai-Pune Expressway and it is designed by a globally renowned US architect who has also designed Boston University and California State University. The official website informs that the Mumbai campus of the University facilitates students' all-round growth. The campus is known to have air-conditioned' academic block and 100 Mbps Wi-Fi. Artemisia College of Art & Design (ACAD) claims to be one of the largest colleges in India for Animation & VFX and Game Design & Development. The college is affiliated to an MP government university, named, Raja Mansingh Tomar Music & Arts University and offers various degree, diploma and certificate courses to students at undergraduate level.

The ACAD campus offers excellent infrastructural facilities to students including Sketching Studios, Drafting Studios, Professional VFX studio, Clay Modelling Studio, Stop Motion Animation Studio, Lightbox Studio, Computer Labs and so on. Industrial Design Centre (IDC) was established by the Government of India in 1969 as part of Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), Bombay. To secure admission in the animation course candidates need to clear CEED exam.
